LRS2B Bus Network Impact Analysis
Major Projects Canberra (MPC) engaged VLC to complete a high-level review of the possible changes and impacts to the Canberra bus network as a result of the Canberra Light Rail Stage 2B (LRS2B) project.
This project feeds into design of the next stage of the light rail project, further development of the Canberra Strategic Transport Model (CSTM), Transport Canberra’s service and infrastructure planning, and provides a point of reference for other projects.
Client requirements
Through a four-phase methodology, VLC was requested to deliver:
- Data analysis
- Development of bus network strategies
- Development of infrastructure strategies and fleet redeployment
- Risk and opportunities analysis
Outcomes
VLC collaborated with MPC and Transport Canberra and City Services (TCCS) to deliver the following outcomes:
- Analysed impacts of light rail on the Canberra bus network, involving modelled patronage data, park and ride facilities across the subregions of Canberra
- Developed potential bus network strategies for southern subregions of Canberra, including a rail replacement strategy
- Facilitated a series of workshops with MPC and Transport Canberra to identify potential network strategies and infrastructure and fleet changes
- Delivered a final report outlining the outcomes of the above tasks and risks and opportunities
