VLC was engaged by VicRoads to prepare traffic forecasts to assist them in developing the scope of the Western and Metropolitan Ring Road (M80) Upgrade project in Melbourne.

Client requirements

The client requirements were to underpin the identification of areas within the project corridor where the current design may prove deficient, and the application for additional funding to address these deficiencies via the 2016/17 Business Case Refresh.

Delivered outcome

VLC prepared traffic forecasts to assist VicRoads in developing the scope of the Western and Metropolitan Ring Road (M80) Upgrade project in Melbourne, which included road widening, interchange redesign (e.g. ramp storage) and ramp metering.

The project later evolved into a refresh of the M80 Upgrade Business Case, which included undertaking forecasting for the economic appraisal. VLC also processed and reviewed traffic survey data. VLC prepared a Zenith strategic transport model to evaluate the M80 corridor, which included undertaking model validation and developing multiple future project scenarios in consultation with the client.
