VLC was engaged by the Department of Transport and Main Roads to develop a set of future year public transport network and service assumptions which represent a ‘high-quality PT investment’ future.
Client requirements
TMR was seeking to develop a set of future year public transport network and service assumptions which represent a ‘high-quality PT investment’ future. This scenario was one of several scenarios to be tested following the development of the SEQ Evaluation Framework and Tool. TMR required a high-quality bus network developed for each of the reference case years (2026, 2031, 2036 and 2041) looking at appropriate network design principles and understanding planned infrastructure and service expansions. The networks were developed to a sufficient detail for strategic modelling and were agreed with stakeholders and coded into Remix and ultimately into SEQSTM-MM input format.
Delivered outcome
VLC undertook transport planning and modelling to develop a high-quality Public Transport network to be tested in the SEQSTM-MM model and in the SEQ Evaluation Framework and Tool. High quality bus networks were developed for each of the reference case years (2026, 2031, 2036 and 2041) and for each of the regions: Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Metropolitan North and Metropolitan South. The existing bus network for each priority corridor was revised for each region and the network was improved by increasing frequencies, adding new services or modifying the alignment of existing services. These high-quality networks were presented to various stakeholders and revised and updated. These were then coded to Remix and presented to stakeholders for final reviews. Once agreed upon, the networks were converted to SEQSTM-MM input format and delivered to TMR.
